Pasi Jaakola writes: ‘My photographic philosophy could be described with the word “icon”, derived from the Greek eikṓn, meaning “image.” In the words of the Messiah, “you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” According to Leonid Ouspensky, “tradition is the ability to know the truth in the Holy Spirit. As an expression of the unchanging, revealed truth, the icon, witnesses to the salvation prepared before the face of all people. The divine energy, this light gives form and unity to everything. The world represented in the icon is permeated by the power of this uncreated light. Gold, which combines a radiating luminosity with opacity, expresses the divine light. The radiance of gold symbolizes the divine glory.” (Theology of the Icon, 1978). My photograph, ‘El Elyon’, was taken with a Canon DSLR, with a 50mm focal length, a f/5.7 aperture, a 1/60 exposure, and a 1/64 shutter speed.
