The reading periods for each issue are as follows.
Spring 2027: 1 to 31 January; Theme: To be determined by 15 November 2026
Summer 2027: 1 to 30 April; Theme: To be determined by 15 November 2026
Autumn 2027: 1 to 31 July; Theme: Amsterdam
Work submitted at other times will not be considered.
Work must be previously unpublished and submitted in a recent Microsoft Word file format. (Self-published work is considered as published). Poems should be no longer than two A4 pages; articles, fiction, essays and other prose, no more than 3,000 words. Artwork and photography files should be no larger than one megabyte (1MB). Submit no more than two pieces (for example, two poems or one poem and one short story) per person per reading period. Please indicate your last name and Amsterdam Quarterly submission in the subject line of your e-mail.
AQ retains first publication and serialization rights for its online magazine as well as for its print-on-demand yearbook. No simultaneous submissions. AQ offers one copy of the AQ Yearbook, in which the author’s and/or artist’s work appears, per year as payment for his/her/their work.
